Defying gravity: Caspers Anchor Fitness puts a new twist on training

CASPER, Wyo. A new fitness studio in Casper is challenging stereotypes and promoting a unique form of exercise: pole fitness. Anchor Fitness is located at 849 CY Ave., Suite B. It is owned by Billie-Jean Dvorak and officially opens its doors on November 21st, with a soft opening taking place on October 21st.

Dvorak, a self-taught pole fitness enthusiast, is about to receive her official certification. She plans to have her official certification next week, ahead of the grand opening later this month. Certification requires mastery of 20 movements and passing a written exam.

Her journey into the world of pole fitness began when her cousin bought her a pole after she graduated from nursing school. Over the years, she has honed her skills, and despite the setback in trying to start the studio in 2020 due to COVID-19, she is now ready to share her passion with the Casper community.

The Studio and Security

Currently, Anchor Fitness has three centers and a growing group of 13 students. Dvorak emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for her students.

“I think people trust me a lot because they know that if they get hurt, which they shouldn’t, they’re in good hands,” she explains.

The studio is equipped with a mat for practicing inversions, and Billie-Jean acts as a spotter to ensure her students maintain balance and safety during their workouts.

All Anchor Fitness equipment was installed by a licensed company, ensuring safety and quality.

The studio offers a variety of classes, starting with beginner courses on Tuesdays before progressing to Pole 1.

Dvorak clarifies that pole fitness is the preferred term for this type of exercise, emphasizing the benefits of the full-body workout. Helps improve core strength, balance, stability, flexibility and overall mental health.

Anchor Fitness offers several membership options and classes to suit different needs and preferences. Members can opt for a $90 monthly subscription, which includes unlimited classes and open gym hours with a spotter. Group classes are available for $22 per person per class and private classes are available for $50 for 30 minutes.

Dvorak is determined to use Anchor Fitness as a platform to empower the community and raise awareness of pole fitness as a legitimate sport. She is well aware of the misconceptions surrounding pole fitness and is ready to challenge them head on.

“It’s all about community,” she states, “I hope to empower the community to raise awareness that it is a sport and not just something strippers do for money.” She also emphasized that Anchor Fitness is LGBT-inclusive and works to build a mentally healthy and therapeutic environment.

Additionally, she plans to expand the studio’s offerings in the future, including birthday parties and bachelorette parties.

With a background in performing arts and a minor in ballet, which she learned at Beating Heart Dance Studio, Dvorak is a multifaceted person with a passion for helping others.

In addition to her work at Anchor Fitness, Dvorak continues to work as a nurse at Shepard of the Valley Nursing Home on the weekends.

For anyone interested in learning more about Anchor Fitness and the classes offered, Dvorak recommends checking out the studio’s Facebook page, as the website is still under development. The studio also uses the Square App for scheduling and payments.
