Putting the 28-day ‘Wall Pilates’ challenge to the test

It’s everywhere on social media: lose weight and belly fat, reduce stress in just 28 days. But does the Wall Pilates Challenge deliver results? We’re teaming up with two women determined to find the answer. “I saw the ads. So, it’s something I wanted,” Torrance Brown said. She knows fitness well. Brown helps others as a coach at the Parkway Community YMCA in West Roxbury. Now, she hopes to work on herself. “Well, you know, we always want to get rid of it,” she said, pointing to her belly. “But mostly I want to lessen the consistency of doing Pilates regularly.” She will have help in her mission from Pilates and the YMCA’s senior director of healthy living, Regina Hayes. Hayes also wants to see if this challenge can be met. “I’m curious to see what kind of instruction they will offer, because there is a lot of detail in the Pilates movements. That’s why I’m here, to be able to coach our student through some of the exercises,” said Hayes. We chose the “Better Me Wall Pilates Challenge,” which promises a customized plan for about $15. Brown just needs to fill out a quick questionnaire. with Hayes on standby and then her 28-day Pilates script is handed in. She downloads the app and we’re off! “I think at first it’s going to be a struggle just because like anything you add to a daily habit, it’s going to be difficult,” she said. Brown. “But my goal is that at 14 days I don’t have to think about it too much, and at 21 days it’s just second nature. I hope at 28 days this is just stuck in my brain.” fits with the YMCA’s mission. They are in the middle of the “Together We Move” initiative, trying to get everyone moving more in our area. We’ll be in touch with Brown and Hayes every Thursday on NewsCenter 5 at 4pm for the next four weeks to see how the challenge goes.
