42 operations carried out nationally since September as part of the localization of health policy: DSDMS

On Wednesday, the Department of Medical Services Support and Development (DSDMS) reported that since September this year, it has supported 42 operations at Bani Walid General Hospital (18), Gharian Hospital (10) , at Khoms Hospital (6) and at Tripoli University Hospital. (6) and the cardiac hospital (Tripoli) (2).

The DSDMS said this is part of its strategy to localize treatment in Libya. These operations are carried out in cooperation with the medical staff of the respective hospitals and under the supervision of the DSDMS which ensured all the medical needs necessary to carry out these operations.

It is part of a national campaign to improve local healthcare provision, saving the state from huge overseas healthcare costs and sparing citizens the cost and inconvenience of research healthcare abroad.

The 42 operations are only those supported by the DSDMS. They do not include operations carried out independently by different hospitals.

The DSDMS announced that it will continue, in cooperation with national cadres of public health centers and hospitals, to carry out several surgical operations in the following medical specialties, namely cardiac surgery and implantation of the knee and hip joints. basin. Libyans must apply for these free operations through the subcommittees listed by the DSDMS, accompanied by prior documents.

Although to outside observers the number of these operations appears small, they are a very important indicator that efforts to reform Libya’s broken health system are moving in the right direction.
